Roccaraso is the heart of the largest ski area in the Mediterranean , the area Alto Sangro , including 160km of slopes and 36 lifts . Many races are held annually even internationally . In March 2005 Roccaraso hosted the finals of the European Cup male and female , and is a candidate to host a round of the World Cup . In 2012 it hosted the World Junior Alpine Ski Championships .
